Possible signs of labour?

Im after a bit of advice ladies...I'm 38 weeks pregnant and I have been clearing out my bowels for the past 2/3 weeks, mainly I'll wake up in the middle of the night needing the toilet. I've had a big increase in discharge and sometimes it's a little mucus/snot like but no signs of the big plug. I woke up with back ache last night and yet again needed the toilet and feel really sickly today, could this be early signs of labour? Just want to add baby is still very active and had nothing that resembles contractions xx evening garments of the formal style
